Bipin Rawat becomes India's first CDS. This marks the fulfillment of PM Narendra Modi's announcement of the position during Independence-day address in 2019. Rawat was commissioned into the Army in December 1978 and was serving as Chief of Army Staff since January 1, 2017 before being anointed as the CDS chief.
