AIFW 2017: Amit Aggarwal Lauds Priyanka Chopra, Rahul Bose For Leading The Sustainable Fashion Game

Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter’17 ends today. The 4-day fashion extravaganza witnessed the likes of Anju Modi, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rina Dhaka, Anupama Dayal, Pankaj & Nidhi, Namrata Johsipura and Malini Ramani present their collections.
The finale show, to be showcased by designers Amit Aggarwal and Tarun Tahiliani, has already got the fashion connoisseurs’ curiosities piqued. Tarun will bring to ramp a Bohemian rhapsody of sorts while Amit will highlight the ever-changing curve of earth’s topography with his collection.
Amit has made use of pre-owned Patola and Benaras brocades as an attempt to create an amalgamation of “rich heritage crafts with the eclectic present.”
When asked why he chose these fabrics, Amit shared his fascination with the traditional knits. “I have been fascinated by these traditional techniques & textiles and wanted to utilise those in a not so obvious way.”
“Thus we took up vintage pieces of these sarees and borders and incorporated them in our outfits utilising our signature materials and techniques,” he said while speaking to News18.com.

The couturier believes that it’s not just the concept of sustainable fashion which needs to be highlighted but also an emphasis on general awareness should take the root.
“An awareness towards the current environmental issues and individual & communal steps towards resolving those is the need of the hour and sustainable fashion is one of those things,” he said.
Considering that most people take fashion cues from Bollywood, its contribution to the development of sustainable fashion can’t be ignore. To this, Amit said, Bollywood is definitely a factor that can help push sustainable fashion into the limelight and mainstream fashion business.”
He further credited celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and Rahul Bose for taking the baton towards a healthy environment forward.
