New Delhi: Designer duo Shivan and Narresh’s resort wear collection at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 16 was inspired from the paintings of one of the most prominent Mexican artists of the twentieth century, Diego Rivera.
The duo, mostly known for their ultra-glam trikinis and maillots were awe-inspired by the artist while exploring the galleries of New York’s Rockerfeller Center. They found the colour palette and social mood very captivating.
Using neoprene as the primary fabric, the duo used a lot of colour blocking and mostly neon shades were the highlight. The bikini-lehengas had striking embellishments which was an extension of their accessory line that they wanted to incorporate in their designs.
Sharing more insight on their new collection Narresh Kukreja said, “The real challenge was to keep the DNA of the brand intact, we are a bathing suit company and we make sure that we have to expand in the same lifestyle of swim and resort wear. You saw bikini saris or resort saris made out of Italian jersey, we didn’t change the fabric, and stuck to the streamline and colour palette.”
“We took inspiration from Mexican artist Diego Rivera’s paintings and most of which are morbid. We added more colour to make it more exciting. Indian women are blessed with a curvy figure and they shouldn’t shy away in flaunting the same. Women across the world envy our figure and undergo surgery to attain the same, so Indian women should celebrate their curves,” he said.
