Bizarre Food Trends of 2018 that Need to Go Next Year
In 2018, all the Insta-worthy and glitzy food trends made us wish technology could allow us to download food. But were these food trends worth the hype?

This year, while our phones beeped with Instagram notifications, we found ourselves scrolling through pages revealing shimmery appearances, flaunting that pop color and oozing some lip smacking appeal. No, we aren’t talking about runway outfits by Gucci or Dolce & Gabbana, but the glamorous food trends of 2018.

These food trends made us wish technology could allow us to download food. But were these food trends worth the hype?

Irrespective of the taste factor, noshes around the year were all about good looks, good looks and some more good looks.

Here are the hottest trends:

Chocolate Pani Puri

In bars and clubs, we saw versions of Pani Puri served with colorful water mixtures like hing, jeera, pudina, orange, pineapple and kala khata. The Pani Puri vaccine injections were unmissable and creative but imagine chowing down chocolate Pani Puri topped with colorful sprinkles. Disturbing, right?

With all the extravagant deconstruction of Pani Puri we did miss the vibes of the street food where we wouldn’t call it quits until we left the spot without claiming our birth right Sukhi Puri. Nevertheless, we love creativity when it comes to food but just keep the chocolate away from the pani puri.

50 Tastes of Momos

Momos are divine pieces fallen from the heavens above. Momos in burgers, momos dipped in chocolate, tandoori momos and many other momos, you just name it. But tawa gravy momo with rumali roti and Icecream momo need to go. Really.

On the other hand, Ice cream momos are colorful and cold. That’s pretty much what there is. The combination in itself gives you a brain freeze.

Samosa with Chinese Stuffing

What do you get when Samosa and Chinese food come together? A failed marriage. Any food combination paired with the king of comfort food, Samosa, becomes heavenly. Chai samosa, keema samosa, cheese samosa are perfect but Chinese samosa, Italian samosa, macroni samosa, noodles samosa? Why!

Combination of maida with some more maida, perfect! What else does our gut need to be happier? Having said that, can we bring back the aloo in the samosa with all due respect to Akshay Kumar’s song and leave the samosa alone with chutney.

Charcoal Everything

The Insta world went gaga over charcoal Ice cream, charcoal pizza crust, charcoal cup cakes and everything charcoal. Oops! Activated charcoal is what we mean if that makes it sound any healthier.

After receiving a thumbs down from food scientists regarding its safety, food fanatics would try it mainly try it cause well it’s the year of detoxification. Yes, agreed charcoal is used to detox any overdoes of poisonous particles in the body and aids in body detox, medically. But consuming charcoal is difficult. We need to resist the temptation of dying every food in black, for health sake.

Extremely Overloaded Desserts

Hats off to the pastry chefs for this invention but the overloaded desserts need to go. We are game for sinful chocolate shakes topped with whipped cream and colorfully sprinkled with a donut. No wonder they are called freakshakes. Phew!

These were popular in 2016 in the USA but the trend swept Indian food scenes this year and hope it vanishes by 2019.
