Liver is considered as the most hard-working organ of our body since it has to perform multiple functions to keep our body free from toxins and improve metabolism. The major function of liver is to filter the blood coming from digestive tract before passing it on to the other parts of the body. It is crucial to maintain liver health so that our body can function aptly. Incorporating a few changes in your diet and lifestyle can keep your liver healthy and in good functioning. Let’s take a look:

Include Liver Cleansing Foods

Healthy eating habits are an important aspect to keep our liver healthy. Including liver cleansing foods in our diet like garlic, carrots, green tea, apples, green leafy vegetables etc. will help in promoting normal liver health. Eating fried or processed food, overeating and exposure to pollutants or stress can hamper the functioning of liver.

Reduce Fat

Reducing fat in your diet and, on the other hand, increasing the intake of protein and fiber rich food can result in better liver health. Specialists say that the fat intake should be reduced to 20% of your diet. Consume whole sources like flax seeds, chia seeds, broccoli, avocado etc.

Reduce Salt Intake

High salt intake can not only increase the blood pressure but it is also responsible for causing fatty liver disease by retaining fluid in the liver. Therefore, we should reduce the salt intake especially the processed one.

Medication & Side-Effects

Overdose of drugs like antidepressants, mood stabilizers, steroids and pain relievers can result in malfunctioning of liver. Over consumption of nutritional supplements leads to the production of certain liver enzymes, this also can cause damage to the liver. Overdose of Vitamin A is a common factor that can cause liver toxicity. So, we must be aware about the side effects of different medications.

Limit Caffeine/Alcohol

Drinking plenty of water and fresh fruit juices in place of coffee, tea or aerated drinks can help the liver detoxify the system properly. If you are not a teetotaler then limit your alcohol consumption otherwise it can damage your liver adversely.
