Depression is an ailment which is witnessed by almost everyone at some particular point of time. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depressive disorders were ranked as the third leading cause of the global burden of disease in 2004 and will move into the first place by 2030.
Even though celebrities lead a lavish, elegant and rich life and seems to have it all, but being famous doesn’t exempt them from the entanglement of depression. Following is the list of the biggies of entertainment industry, who conflicted with their unhappy lives resulting in depression:
The actress suffered depression not for a long span, but, she emerged as a hero, while discussing her ailment with the world. Speaking up about depression is uncommon in film industry, but Deepika felt the importance of breaking the taboo and tried to make the world aware with her difficulties while battling depression.
Oscar-winning actress too could not escape depression. She suffered severe clinical depression in 2007 when her mother passed away. She said, “My mother had just passed away, and I wanted to do something physical to get it out of my head for a while. I felt I was going into a very dark place, and I wasn’t capable of getting up in the morning” in one of her interviews.
Shah Rukh Khan
Considered as the most sorted and intelligent star of film industry, Shah Rukh Khan suffered depression ailment post his shoulder surgery. But our ‘Badshah’ of Bollywood succeeded in battling it.
This Hollywood superstar needs no introduction to the world. But sadness and depression attacked him early on in his acting career. He overcame it and battled it as he enacted a ‘crusader’ in his one of the popular flick ‘Fight Club’. “I see it as great education, as one of the season or semester: This season I was majoring in depression”, Brad had said in one of his interviews.
The cause of his ailment, is obvious enough, prison. An actor who was used to live life king size, suffered depression inside the prison, as he was unable to even sleep and eat food there.
“There is nothing worse than being fake happy” said Miley in one of her interviews. She opened up about her depression to the world through Elle Magazine by confessing in an interview that she battled with ‘anxiety’ and ‘depression’, over breaking up with former fiancé Liam Hemsworth. “I locked myself in my room and my dad had to break my door down”.
‘Ghajini’ fame actress Jiah Khan was so much into this ailment of stress that nothing could save her. She succumbed to depression and committed suicide. The actress suffered depression, reason being her failed Bollywood career and problematic relationship status. The news of this incident was a big shock to the film fraternity.
Pop’s biggest star Lady Gaga went through stress and depression. She admitted that she takes medication every day for “mental illness”. The singer became very depressed at the end of 2013. She said “I really felt like I was dying, my light completely out”. But she soon came out of it and encouraged the world by saying that “Depression doesn’t take away your talents, it just makes harder to find. But I always find it”.
The actress suffered clinical depression, the cause of which was her ex-husband Samrat Dahlal. She used social media platform, Facebook to write about her disrupted mental stage due to constant fights and matrimonial discords. She is also a cancer survivor.
