The Indian film industry boasts of having some of the most beautiful women in the world. Without setting unreal and rather artificial standards of beauty, Indian actresses like Hema Mailni, Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Shabana Azmi etc have managed to remain etched in our memory even after years of their first appearance on the silver screen.

Let's revel in the beauty of these women who are our solace in this era of Photoshop and airbrush techniques:

Madhubala's picture appeared in the American magazine Theatre Arts in August 1952 issue, where she was featured in an article with a full page photograph under the title: 'The Biggest Star in the World - and she's not in Beverly Hills'.

Born Mahjabeen Bano, Meena Kumari was also a poet.

The original 'Dream girl' of Bollywood, Hema Malini made her acting debut in 1968.

Shabana Azmi has won 5 National Film Awards for Best Actress.

Sarika started her acting career at the young age of 4.
