Priyanshu Painyuli, the breakout star of Vikramaditya Motwane’s latest film Bhavesh Joshi is quite content with the attention and appreciation that he’s been getting for his role. Priyanshu plays the titular role of Bhavesh, becoming a vigilante with a mask – Insaaf Man, a role that that is carried forward by Harshvardhan Kapoor later in the film. On his successful attempt of impressing the audience and critics alike, Priyanshu tells News18, “It feels great. I am still taking it all in and extremely grateful to the people for liking my role.”

Talking about working with Motwane, he says, “It was a pleasure to work with Vikramaditya Motwane. He is someone known for his experimental filmmaking and being part of a project such as Bhavesh Joshi was learning experience for me. Motwane is someone who believes in workshops and coming from a theater background it was easy for me to adjust.”

About connecting with his own character Priyanshu says, “I am a bit like Bhavesh. I believe in following rules and make sure people around adhere to them. So it was easy for me to get the psyche of my character.”

The film relies heavily on the bond between two friends, Bhavesh and Sikander. Commenting on Priyanshu's real-life friendship with Harshvardhan Kapoor, he elaborates, “Harsh and I became really close during the shoot and that chemistry translates onto the screen. We used to live together, rehearse together, shoot together and attend the workshop together. He is a really young and dynamic personality and our frequency matched from the very beginning.”

Bhavesh Joshi touches upon some serious socio-political issues faced by the country. Elaborating more on the writing and treatment of bureaucracy in the film, Priyanshu says, “People at Phantom, Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, never shy away from bringing out the flaw in the system. They are some daring people and that shows in their work. In Bhavesh Joshi as well, they slyly comment upon the social structure while being true to the making of a ‘common-hero’. They are really smart people who know their craft and most importantly keep everything real.”

So does he think some other filmmaker would have done justice to the ‘superhero’ genre the film finds itself in? “Well, we’ve had superhero films before- Ra. One, Krissh etc. I believe every filmmaker has his own style and every superhero film has been different. Bhavesh Joshi is about a common man taking on the little issues surrounding his life before he gets caught up in a big scam. Then half the time after every fight he’s limping because he doesn’t have any superpower. His will is his superpower,” he answers.

On being asked if he’s willing to work in another ‘superhero’ film, Priyanshu quips, “Of course! I am big fan of the genre especially the X-Men. Wolverine (Logan) is my favourite. See there also you find different treatment of the genre with different filmmakers. So yes, if given a chance I would love to a superhero film again.”
