South Korean band BlackPink’s Rose has finally released her first solo album titled R. The 24-year-old singer, who has already enthralled her fans with her melodious voice as a member of Blackpink, got the chance to work on her solo album for which she also turned into a songwriter.
New-Zealand-born Rose released her first single from the album called On the Ground on Friday. The music video has garnered over 39 million views. The song is written and sung in English, which is quite different from her Korean language songs that she has sung as a part of Blackpink. Besides On The Ground, Rose’s album also includes another English song titled Gone.With this album, Rose is trying to appeal to both her international and domestic fanbase.
According to Kpop Herald, in a press conference just ahead of her album release on Friday, Rose said that she had put a lot of effort into her solo debut. She further said that since her fans have waited for it for such a long time, she wanted it to be satisfying. The vocalist said that she attended a lot of meetings to convey her opinions for the album, from its cover design to her first song writing.
Describing her experience of working on her solo album, Rose said that she reflected on herself and realized how much she loved music, and has grown with it. Talking about writing the album in English, Rose said that she did so as she thought it was the most fitting language for her fans. She further hopes that her fans also find comfort listening to her songs as well.
Besides Rose, BlackPink’s Jennie had also released her solo track titled Solo in 2018. Jennie’s music video has garnered over 631 million views since it was released.
The four-member band Blackpink had also released its first album, titled The Album last year. The South Korean band has collaborated with Western pop artists like Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Cardi B, and Lady Gaga.
