It all started with an Instagram post on Saturday shared by American gymnast Laurie Hernandez where she explained that her leotard is inspired by superhero Captain Marvel played by Brie Larson. And now it seems Laurie and Brie have become sort of internet buddies.
Laurie’s Instagram post on Saturday was a picture where she was seen in her athletic stance as she wore a Captain Marvel inspired leotard. The 20-year-old wrote in the caption that she told some of her followers how her navy blue and red costume for gymnastics was inspired by superheroes. She further tagged Brie Larson who plays Captain Marvel on screen and asked if she approves of her design.
The 31-year-old actor was quick to respond and on Sunday shared Laurie’s Instagram post on Twitter and wrote that the gymnast should consider it as her formal stamp of approval. Brie further wrote that she is watching and wishing her all the strength in her returning performance. Brie posted a similar comment on Laurie’s Instagram post where she wrote, “Consider this comment my formal stamp of approval!! Watching and wishing you strength in your return!”
Even the official Marvel page approved of Laurie’s leotard as they commented, “we LOVE it ️ ”
Laurie was overjoyed with this response and quote tweeted Brie’s tweet and expressed her gratitude. Laurie also made an offer as she asked Brie if they both could play mario kart or zelda together when the pandemic is over.
Ahh thank you! when the pandemic is over… we should play mario kart or zelda together👉🏽👈🏽 https://t.co/fKAd7d9I8Y

The Olympic gymnast made her comeback on Saturday at the Winter Cup where she performed a new floor routine in her first gymnastics meet since the 2016 Rio Olympics. It was for this comeback performance that Laurie chose to wear a leotard inspired by Captain Marvel.
Laurie’s Winter Cup floor routine was inspired by the classic Broadway musical Hamilton-inspired. The performance even impressed the musical actor Leslie Odom Junior who took to Twitter to applaud Laurie’s performance.
You murda’d it! So damn impressive. Congratulations and thanks! https://t.co/HTJzQQikY5
