It’s confirmed! Rihanna is set to headline Super Bowl 2023 Halftime. The Barbadian singer sparked some speculations by posting a snap of a football on her Instagram on Sunday. Following this, Apple Music and NFL took to Twitter to confirm the performance. The tweet from Roc Nation read, “Let’s GO – @Rihanna @NFL #SBLVII @AppleMusic @NFLonFOx”. It had the same snap of the football that Rihanna shared.
Take a look at the post:
Unsurprisingly, netizens expressed their excitement on RiRi’s Instagram post. American Drag Queen, Yvie Oddly commented, “I’ve never been so excited about football in my life!!!” While celebrity photographer Miles Diggs called the upcoming performance “The main event.” Even Singer Justin Bieber couldn’t hold back his excitement as he wrote, “The queen is back.”
According to USA Today, the Founder of Roc Nation, (the agency that manages Rihanna) Jay-Z, mentioned in a news release on Sunday, that Rihanna is a “generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn. A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”

NFL Head of Music, Seth Dudowsky, also shared his excitement about having Rihanna on board with the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show Stage. He called her a “cultural force throughout her career.” Dudowsky added, “We look forward to collaborating with Rihanna, Roc Nation and Apple Music to bring fans another historic Halftime Show performance.”
However, this has not been the first time the Grammy-winning singer has been approached for the opportunity. She turned down to perform at the 2019 halftime show to stand in solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick knelt during the programme’s national anthem to protest police brutality and social inequality in 2016. Following the controversy, he accused the NFL of trying to keep him out of the league. The case was, however, settled in early 2019.
The same year, NFL partnered with Roc Nation to help pick performers for the halftime show.
Super Bowl 2023 will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12th, 2023.
