Bengaluru: Yash-starrer Kannada movie ‘Kolar Gold Fields (KGF)’ faces trouble as the Bengaluru 10th ACMM Court has ordered a stay on the movie a day before its release.

The movie directed by Prashant Neel and its Hindi version produced by Bollywood's Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani was set to hit the screens on Friday.

However, one of the producers, Vijay Kiragandur, in a video statement addressing the fans, said, “Do not pay heed to rumours, the movie will be released in the morning of Dec 21, those who have bought tickets can go and enjoy the movie.”

The order came after a petition filed by Venkatesh G and S Anand against producers R Lakshminarayana and Kiragandur (Homable Films), who asked for a permanent injunction for the screening of the film.

The court on Thursday passed a temporary injunction restraining the producers and distributors from screening the film.

The movie is set in the 70s and is based on the real-life story of Thangam, a notorious rowdy sheeter from Kolar Gold Fields. The petitioner, Venkatesh, wanted a stay on the movie as he claimed to have taken rights from Tangam’s wife.

A letter from the lawyers representing Venkatesh addressed to UFO Moviez India Ltd states: "In case of screening the film titled KGF in any manner as per scheduled date December 21, 2019 will amount to contempt of court, since you are the service provider which transmits the said film theatrically, at that instance you are liable to further consequences".

Meanwhile, in yet another complaint at the city and sessions court a petitioner sought temporary injunction on the movie’s release until the title is changed. The petitioners felt using terms like bloody in the films posters which showed bloody gold mines of Kolar, defamed Kolar gold fields and also misled the public about the impression about the place.
