One of the most anticipated releases of 2018, Kaalakaandi, is all set to hit the theaters today. Kaalakaandi, which can be loosely translated to a situation gone wrong, is touted to be a dark comedy.
The film is directed and written by Akshat Verma. Even though the film marks his debut as a solo filmmaker, Verma is associated with the 2011-released film Delhi Belly as a writer. And going by the trailer, the film seems to follow the same eccentric path in terms of storytelling and dialogues.
Apart from humorous punchlines in the trailer, the film also boasts of a dependable cast including the likes of Deepak Dobriyal, Akshay Oberoi, Kunal Roy Kapur and Vijay Raaz.

Saif's performance makes this little underwhelming film worth watching...
And if you like Saif Ali Khan at his eccentric best and are in for a slightly psychedelic "chill" watch, you might want to go for #Kaalakaandi. But don't expect too much of it and be prepared for an unrealistic touch towards the end.
Diagonosed with stomach cancer, Saif Ali Khan's character is set to try all things he's never done before. And after taking an "acid" pill for the first time, a whole new night of adventure awaits him. #Kaalakaandi
Saif was seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's period drama Rangoon and Raja Krishna Menon's remake of Jon Favreou's Chef but both failed to leave the cash registers ringing at the box office. Will Kaalakaandi end Saif's dry run at the box office? Will the cast's comic timing leave viewers in splits? Will the film match up to the expectations? Kriti Tulsiani is inside the theater to find out.
According to a statement issued on behalf of the makers on Wednesday, they have decided to postpone the release date to be able to have sufficient time to complete the censor process following the suggested cuts.
According to a source in the know of developments, the script was written specifically with Saif in mind and it took over two years before the script finally got to the actor.

Interestingly Fawad Khan was expected to play the lead in the film when the project was with UTV in 2013. However, things couldn't work out and the project landed with Saif Ali Khan.

The film comes from the same brain that co-directed Delhi Belly a few years ago- Akshat Verma. While Delhi Belly can easily be counted among a cult of modern classics, there are similar expectations from Kaalakaandi as well.

It's one of those rare occasions when Bollywood had decided to make a black comedy with a mainstream cast. Kaalakaandi, starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Akshay Oberoi, Shobita Dhulipala and Kunaal Roy Kapur is an interesting comedy surrounding the life of a man who starts 'living' after getting diagnosed with stomach cancer.
