After opening to average numbers at the box office, Abhishek Kapoor's directorial Kedarnath has gained momentum on day 2 of its release as it earned Rs 9.15 crore. Its current total stands at Rs 17 crore. The film, set against the backdrop of the natural tragedy in the temple town of Kedarnath, is a love story of a Hindu girl (played by debutante Sara Ali Khan) and a Muslim porter (Sushant Singh Rajput).
Tweeting the latest box office figures, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote: "#Kedarnath gathers momentum on Day 2... Growth on Day 2 [vis-à-vis Day 1]: 34.48%... Should witness an upward trend on Day 3 [Sun] as well… Fri 7.25 cr, Sat 9.75 cr. Total: ₹ 17 cr. India biz." (sic)

On day one, Kedarnath managed its collections in the 7-7.25 crore nett range, reported Box Office India. The film is facing tough competition from Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's film 2.0, which has been doing exceptionally well at the box office for two weeks now.
Kedarnath received mixed reviews. CNN-News18 film critic Rajeev Masand rated the film 2.5/5. He wrote, "'Kedarnath' hits its stride when the metaphoric iceberg strikes. Or specifically, with the cloudburst, the floods, and the landslides. Horrific images of three and four-storey buildings coming down like a pack of cards as the ground gives way to the strong currents are still fresh in most of our minds when someone mentions the events of 2013. The filmmakers recreate some of those images to good effect. The effects are serviceable, but the emotions run high. It’s in these final 20 minutes or so that the film genuinely makes you ‘feel’. The awe, shock, horror, and heartbreak are well earned."
