Malaal actors Meezaan Jafri and Sharmin Segal were spotted on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kthiawadi. However, it is not for a part in the movie that the two actors were in the Alia Bhatt-starrer film.
Meezaan and Sharmin were seen playing the ever-so helpful assistant directors on the sets of Gangubai Kathiawadi. In an Instagram post shared online Monday, the former co-stars were seen in a face mask holding the movie slate as they posed for a selfie.
Sharminis director Bhansali’s niece and a movie editor, while Meezaan Jafri is veteran Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey’s son. The two made their Bollywood debut in 2019 with Malaal. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Bhushan Kumar, Malaal was directed by Mangesh Hadawale.
In a reunion of sorts, Meezan and Sharmin assisted SLB for the shooting of Gangubai Kathiawadi. The teaserof the movie launched on February 24, 2021. Inspired by real life story of one of Mumbai’s most revered sex workers, the movie is a dramatisation of how Gangubai rose to become one of the most influential women of Kamathipura. The 27-year-old actress is seen playing a character she has never done before. Fans are already praising Alia’s impressive performance as the trailer garnered over 29 million views on YouTube since it was released.
The upcoming movie is based on the book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai'' written by S Hussain Zaidi. Makers of the movie have said that the film celebrates the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawadi who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.
The teaser has already impressed Alia’s fellow actors from the industry who have expressed their excitement. Actress Priyanka Chopra had shared the teaser on her Twitter handle last month as she congratulated SLB and Alia for their magical work. Other actors who poured in their wishes included Akshay Kumar, Ram Charan and Shah Rukh Khan.
