Just when you thought Bollywood has moved past the templated gangster drama and power tussle set in Mumbai’s underbelly, John Abraham is bringing back the genre with his upcoming film Mumbai Saga. The actor has owned the action drama genre in the recent past with films like Shootout at Wadala and Force, and Mumbai Saga belongs to the same stable.
The action crime film is directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by T-Series. It stars an ensemble cast of John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, Suniel Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte and Gulshan Grover. Set in the ’80s and ’90s, Mumbai Saga shows changing faces of Mumbai people by closing mills to make malls and high rise buildings.
The action-packed trailer promises fierce stares, dramatic dialogues and intense face-offs. John’s character is seen rebelling against and threatening several men in power and ultimately killing an industrialist in public. That kicks off a cat and mouse game between him and Emraan Hashmi, who plays a policeman in the film.

It was initially scheduled to release in June last year, but since the cinema halls were shut during the nationwide lockdown, there were several reports that the makers were pondering over a digital release. But the makers later announced that the film will release theatrically on 19 March 2021.
