In the fourth edition of News18 Movies Awards in association with United Colours of Benetton, we select nominees in various popular categories and allow our readers decide the outcome.

From small-budget gems to big Bollywood blockbusters, some of the best films in the recent years hit the theatres in 2016. It was a year that saw a transition of sorts with the cinephiles accepting genuine performances than just make-believe. Despite a few dreadful misfires, viewers found Bollywood films/performances spanning across crucial issues – drug abuse, mental illness, distorted gender expectations, a dysfunctional family, etc - that were worth bringing to the fore.

Amitabh Bhattacharya: Naina (Dangal)



Amitabh Bhattacharya brings the plight of a father-daughter feud in Naina. The emotional track stays with you because of the words and pain in them.

Kausar Munir: Love You Zindagi (Dear Zindagi)



One of the brightest tracks of 2016, Love You Zindagi makes you love life and let go of things hindering your growth. Kausar Munir, beautifully gives you a mantra to live life through her lyrics.

Amitabh Bhattacharya: Channa Mereya (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil)



One of the most popular songs of 2016, Channa Mereya, became the anthem for all heartbroken lovers. The lyrics beautifully conveyed the feelings of Ayan for Alizeh and his pain of one sided love while congratulating the love of her life on her big day.

Irshad Kamil: Jag Ghoomeya (Sultan)



The love song of 2016, this romantic track made us feel Sultan's love for Aarfa. After lyrical genius Rockstar and Tamasha, Irshad Kamil yet again proved his flair for love songs in Jag Ghumeya. The Urdu just added the extra zing to this soulful track.
