Watch: Oscars Moonlight Faux Pas That Just Created History

The film won after the end of the awards ceremony was plunged into chaos after 'La La Land' was mistakenly announced as the best picture winner.

Updated:February 27, 2017, 3:13 PM IST

In what will go down as probably one of the most epic moments in the history of Oscars, Moonlight won the winner of the Best Picture, after a moment of utter chaos.

The film won after the presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner.

Warren says he paused so long before the name was read as the envelope read Emma Stone, La La Land but Faye chided him for taking so long and announced the wrong winner.

Both the films are of different genres – but both boast of cinematic brilliance. Moonlight tells the story of a boy’s journey to adulthood and stars Naomi Harris as his durg-addicted mother and Mahershala Ali as a drug-dealer turned mentor. La La Land is a dreamy tale which follows the journey of two people, who meet, fall in love, argue and endure the every-day professional hiccups.

Moonlight has provided some of the stiffest competition during Hollywood's awards season for the musical La La Land which was nominated for 14 Academy Awards.

The major faux pas didn't really go well with the Twitterati and many of them including celebrities took to Twitter to express the irony of the situation. Some even named the situation as the 'Steve Harvey moment'.
