Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, Padmavati has become the bone of contention for Rajput fringe outfits and many political leaders. While Supreme Court has distanced itself asking CBFC to follow the guidelines, looks like the government can't ignore it anymore. After many BJP MPs sharing their opinions against the release of the ban, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has stepped in.

The panel, headed by BJP Lok Sabha member Anurag Thakur, has summoned Bhansali along with the producer, CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, and the secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, to appear before it during their next meeting on Thursday. The panel wants Bhansali to present his views.

Besides actors Paresh Rawal and Raj Babbar, veteran BJP leader LK Advani is also part of the 30-member bipartisan panel of MPs.

Bhansali's Padmavati has been mired in controversy since its shooting started. Activists of the Karni Sena, besides other groups, have been protesting against the movie, claiming the film "distorts" historical facts.

The release of the movie, earlier scheduled for December 1, has been deferred.
