During the launch of Alcoholia song in Mumbai earlier this month, Vikram Vedha actor Hrithik Roshan was seen dancing with fans on the stage. In the video that went viral on social media, the actor was seen teaching steps to his fans as he screamed and enjoyed dancing with them.
Ahead of the film’s release, Mani Ratnam spoke to News18 Tamil when he shared the biggest challenge he faced while making Ponniyin Selvan 1. He revealed that writing dialogues for the movie were a big challenge and elaborated that the Tamil spoken during the 7th century was quite different from today’s language. Therefore he could not have used ‘flowery’ version of the language.
“Ratnam once again assembles the perfect team to realise his vision. Ravi Varman’s cinematography is one of the key strengths of the film. His visual treatment transports you to the world of dynasties. The costumes by Eka Lakhani and art director Thota Tharani are opulent and yet never once draw attention away from the drama,” News18 Showsha’s review reads.
Impressed with Ponniyin Selvan I, netizens say that the film is visually ‘grand and stunning’.

In an interview ahead of the PS I release, Trisha Krishnan revealed how she and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan got along very well while shooting for the film. She mentioned that even though the movie required them to stay arch-rival, they shared quite a rapport off-screen. And therefore, there were times when the veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam would scold them too.
“I fortunately got to meet her and interact with her on the day one of my shoot. She is beautiful inside and out, I don’t even need to say that. The thing is, this was challenging because we are not supposed to like each other too much in this film, but we got along pretty famously on set. There were times when Mani sir would come and say, ‘listen, you guys are taking too much, stop talking, I can’t have this camaraderie for my scene’,” she told NDTV.
Vikram Vedha, starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in the lead, has left fans completely impressed. Social media is flooded with netizens praising the film and the cast. One of the fans also mentioned how it is impossible to blink even for a second while watching Vikram Vedha and added that the film will surely impress all with multiple twists.

Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1 hit the cinema halls today, September 30. The film’s music has been received well by the masses. Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay is also a big fan of Ponniyin Selvan 1’s music and keeps humming the song Ponni Nadhi on the sets of his film, Varisu. This interesting information was revealed by actor Sarath Kumar, at a recent press meeting.
After the release of Vikram Vedha, Hrithik Roshan was clicked with his rumoured girlfriend and actress Saba Azad. Last evening, Saba had urged people to watch the Hrithik-Saif Ali Khan starrer.
One of the leading characters in Ponniyin Selvan 1 is Nandini (played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), the daughter of Mandakini Devi. Those, who have not read the novel, would be surprised to know that the film adaptation revolves around Nandini’s revenge on the Chola empire. Nandini wishes to avenge the death of her lover Veerapandiyan, king of the Pandyan dynasty. It is believed that a battle was fought between the Chola and Pandyan armies. The Chola army emerged victorious in this battle and mercilessly killed the Pandyan army. However, Veerapandiyan somehow managed to save his life and went into hiding. He was accompanied by princess Nandini, who was adopted and brought up by Azhwarkadiyan Nambi. Read the full story, here.
Ponniyin Selvan is an exquisite retelling of the history of the Chola monarchs who ruled Thanjavur (a district in Tamil Nadu), and it is based on the popular novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ written by writer Amarar Kalki. It also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban. The historic drama, which was originally produced in Tamil, is set to release in five Indian languages – Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
Meanwhile, Vikram Vedha is a modern retelling of the classic folktale Baital Pachisi and a remake of the Tamil film of the same name. The film will see Hrithik Roshan essaying the role of a gangster named Vedha, whereas Saif Ali Khan will be seen as police officer Vikram. In the original version, these characters were essayed by Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan respectively.
Predicting Vikram Vedha’s fate at the box office, producer and film business expert Girish Johar told News18, “The tracking is good-ish. I would have wanted it a little more bullish. I think they went a little under par in terms of marketing the film. Having said that, we all know that the awareness levels are good-ish and it is a Hrithik-Saif film which is a deadly combo so it looks great. Advances are decent and early reports are also suggesting a good box office opening.”
VIKRAM VEDHA REVIEW
News18 recently watched Pushkar–Gayathri’s Vikram Vedha and called it a ‘massy theatrical film.’ The review reads, “Despite its flaws, Vikram Vedha is a massy theatrical film that serves as a fun single-screen theatre experience. I’d suggest caving into Pushkar and Gayathri’s make-believe world and joining Vikram and Vedha’s cat and mouse chase.”

News18’s review of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 reads, “A drama of epic proportions, Ponniyan Selvan-1 is at its core a love story that’s set against the spectacular sweep of the Chola dynasty. It is about romance and falling apart of Aditha Karikalan (played by Vikram), the prince of Chola dynasty and Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), who is an orphan. Magnificently directed by Ratnam, Ponniyan Selvan-1 draws you into its drama just moments into the film, transporting you to the battlefield, to the emperor’s court, to Nandini’s private chamber, and most importantly, into the mind and heart of Nandini’s himself, where he grapples with betrayals, insecurities and revenge.”
