Actor Shahid Kapoor, who is essaying the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, has said he’s confident that the film will eventually get released.

Kapoor, whose film Udta Punjab was also mired in a controversy after the CBFC asked for over 100 cuts in the movie, said he has been through a similar situation in the past and hence he has not lost hope.

“It’s not the first time that I have been a part of a film which is having a few issues in getting a theatrical release. I remember Udta Punjab also had a lot of drama before it arrived in cinemas. But I’m very optimistic because eventually, the film was released,” Shahid told reporters on the sidelines of the 48th International film festival of India.

CBFC recently returned Padmavati back to the makers citing "incomplete application" as the reason. According to CBFC, the movie, which has triggered protests by several Rajput groups, will be reviewed as per the set norms once it is sent back to the board after sorting out the issue. However, Shahid said he believes in the process of certification and is certain that eventually, Padmavati will come out in “full force”.

“I don't think there's anything in the film which is unacceptable or not in good taste. The film is made for the entire country. And I think we should let the people of this country watch and decide what they feel about the film... I’ll choose to be optimistic as this has happened in the past and I did see Udta Punjab get released. It released all over the country and was loved by everyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, when News18 asked Shahid’s frequent collaborator and filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj about his views on the controversy, he said, “I support Sanjay Leela Bhansali but I don’t want to comment anything on the controversy. I’m here to watch films and nothing else. This is my personal celebration of watching films.”
