After much hype and wait, the makers have released the trailer of Simmba on Monday.

The Hindi remake of 2015 Telugu film Temper that starred Jr NTR, Simmba features Ranveer Singh as Sangram Bhalerao, a corrupt cop who becomes a crusader of women’s safety after a girl he treats as his younger sister gets raped.

Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film stars Sonu Sood in a negative role, Ashutosh Rana as a senior cop and Sara Ali Khan as Ranveer’s romantic interest.

Though none of the actors other than Ranveer gets much screen time in the 2.54-minute trailer, it hints at Simmba being a spin off of Rohit’s 2011 blockbuster Singham with Ajay Devgn introducing Ranveer’s character as a kid who dreams of becoming a cop around the time Ajay was busy saving Shivgarh from corrupt politicians. Ajay will also star in the film, albeit in a cameo.

Simmba will be Sara’s second film. She is making her big Bollywood debut opposite Sushant Singh Rajput in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, which is slated to release on December 7.

Most celebrated for his Golmaal films and masala entertainers such as Chennai Express, Singham and Dilwaale, Rohit Shetty’s Simmba is unapologetic about its mass-orientation. Backed by Reliance Entertainment, Dharma Productions and Rohit Shetty Picturez, Simmba is slated to release on December 28.

Talking about the film, Rohit had earlier said, “Though the movie is based on Temper, there are merely a few plot points which are similar. It’s an entirely new story. It is my best written film till date.”
