Sridevi to Jyothika: Southern stars who made comebacks in 2015
Today, let us take a look at the most hyped comebacks of 2015.

As far as fans of Southern cinema are concerned, 2015 was synonymous with the triumph of meticulously crafted content driven films. Moreover, it was also the period which saw upcoming artistes such as GV Prakash give strong proof of their abilities. However, the most encouraging development of the year proved to be the return to prominence of quite a few established names. Today, let us take a look at the most hyped comebacks of 2015.

Sridevi: The popular actress made a comeback to Tamil films, after a gap of nearly three years, with ‘Puli’. Touted as a fantasy drama, it featured her in the role of a cruel queen. As it so happens, the film also featured Vijay and Sudeep in the lead.

Jyothika: Jyothika, who was last seen on the big screen in 2009, made a triumphant comeback when she starred in the Rosshan Andrrews-directed ’36 Vayadhinile’ Featuring her in the role of a clerk, it was produced by Suriya and found tremendous success at the box office. Interestingly, ’36 Vayadhinile’ was a remake of the Malayalam drama ‘How Old are You?’

SS Rajamouli: The celebrated filmmaker continued his tryst with commercial success when ‘Bahubali’ set the box office on fire and earned tremendous critical acclaim along the way. Interestingly, it was his first release in over three years.

Arvind Swamy: Arvind Swamy, who is perhaps best known for films such as ‘Roja’, floored all and sundry with his suave performance in the action-thriller ‘Thani Ouvan’. It was his first release in two years. Incidentally, sometime ago he was requested to reprise the role in the Telugu remake of ‘Thani Oruvan’.

Mani Ratnam: Nearly two years after the release of ‘Kadal’, Mani Ratnam enthralled movie buffs with the romantic-drama ‘OK Kanmani’. A commercial success, it featured Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon in the lead.

Gautami: The 47-year-old actress, who was last seen in the 2006 release ‘Sasanam’, delivered a stellar act in her comeback film ‘Papanasam’. A remake of the Mohanlal starrer, ‘Drishyam’ it saw her share screen space with Kamal Haasan.

Kamal Haasan: And talking of Kamal Haasan, the veteran actor returned to the Telugu film industry with the thriller ‘Cheekati Rajyam’. Directed by Selva Rajesh, it was shot simultaneously in Tamil as ‘Thoongaavanam’. Interestingly, Kamal’s last Telugu movie ‘Eenadu’ had hit screen screens in 2009.
