The year 2016, which kicked off just a few days ago, promises to be quite an exciting and eventful one for fans of Hindi cinema. On one hand, established names will try maintaining their hold over the box office while on the other upcoming stars—right from Ranveer Singh to Arjun Kapoor—will hope to continue their rise to superstardom. Moreover, the year will see quite a few fresh and offbeat onscreen jodis create a buzz amongst movie buffs and critics alike. Today, let us take a look at some ‘hatke’ onscreen pairings which are bound to capture our attention in 2016.

Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan: One of Pakistan’s most celebrated TV stars Mahira Khan will get kick start her association with Hindi cinema when ‘Raees’arrives in theatres later this year. In it, she will be seen romancing none other than ‘Badshah’ Shah Rukh Khan. As King Khan has always shared crackling chemistry with his leading ladies, it would be safe to say that Mahira could not have asked for a better Bollywood debut.

Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor: R Balki’s next directorial venture ‘Ki and Ka’ will see Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor play the role of a married couple. Touted as a romantic-comedy, the film revolves around the gender roles associated with men and women. Needless to say, the Arjun-Kapoor pairing is a rather unconventional one as ‘Bebo’ is older than her 30-year-old co-star by nearly five years. Moreover, she is also a more established name than Arjun.

Madhavan and Ritika Singh: The upcoming sports-drama ‘Saala Khadoos’ revolves around the tender yet turbulent relationship between a boxing coach and his feisty student. While Madhavan plays the role of the coach, newcomer Ritika Singh essays the part of his protégé. The trailer, which was released a short while ago, indicates that the Chemistry between the two will be nothing short of electrifying. Moreover, it also touches upon the tender yet reluctant romance between them.

Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai: In 2015, Aishwarya Rai created quite stir amongst movie lovers courtesy her powerful performance in ‘Jazbaa’. This year, the popular actress will be seen opposite none other than the heartthrob Ranbir in ‘Ae Dil Hain Mushkil’. Needless to say, the two are bound to make an absolutely dazzling onscreen pair courtesy their mesmerizing looks and of course elegant screen presence.

Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez: Remo D’Souza’s superhero film ‘The Flying Jatt’ will see 25-year-old Tiger Shroff showcase his ‘Heropanti’ as he romances the more experienced Jacqueline Fernandez on the big screen. While Sri Lankan beauty has always shared a crackling rapport with established stars such as Salman Khan, it will be intriguing to see how she fares when paired opposite a newcomer.

Ajay Devgn and Sayesha Saigal: Dilip Kumar’s grandniece, Sayesha Saigal will enter the Hindi film industry when she essays the female lead opposite Ajay Devgn in ‘Shivaay’. This pairing is bound to make heads turns as the actress is merely 18 years old while the ‘Raju Chacha’ star is nearly 28 years her senior. Interestingly, ‘Shivaay’ is being directed by Devgn himself.

Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur: Model-turned-actress Nimrat Kaur will be seen playing the role of Akshay Kumar’s wife in ‘Airlift’. Judging by the captivating trailer, the two share an intense yet mature rapport in the Raja Menon-directed film. Interestingly, it revolves around the evacuation of Indians in Kuwait.

Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif: Based on the popular novel ‘Great Expectations’, ‘Fitoor’ is touted as a family-drama. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, it brings together the dynamic pairing of Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur. Based on the recently released posters and trailer, it can pretty safely be said that they make a good couple indeed. Aditya’s rugged look complements Katrina’s cherubic charm quite perfectly.

Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher: Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, who will be seen opposite each other in ‘Mirziyaan’, make a rare/unconventional pair courtesy their esteemed family backgrounds. While Harshvardhan is the son of reputed actor Anil Kapoor, his co-star happens to be the niece of veteran actress Tanvi Azmi.

Farhan Akhtar and Aditi Rao Hydari: The Vidhu Vinod Chopra-produced ‘Wazir’ features Farhan Akhtar and Aditi Rao Hydari as onscreen lovers. The trailer suggests that the ‘Rock On’ star’s subued yet intense onascreen appearance could go hand in hand with Aditi’s vivacious personality and add tremendous depth to the film’s romantic track.
