'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Review: The Force returns with JJ Abram's latest episode, with its bright as well as dark side

This seventh part is worthy enough to be the part of 'Star Wars' films. The film has Lucas' touch with Abraham's renewed energy.

Director: JJ Abrams

Cast: Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow.

The classic sci-fi Hollywood series is back with the seventh episode from the saga, marking the start of a new trilogy. The story of this episode follows the galactic changes after the 'Return of Jedi' in 1983.

After 30 years of destroying the second death star along with Darth Vader, the last Jedi, Luke Skywalker is missing. There is great unrest in the galaxy with the dark side ruling and a small group of rebellion again finding its base. Both the 'Rebellion' and the dark side, now known as 'The First Order', are desperate to find the last Jedi, who abandoned everything after an apprentice failed him and the Jedi order.

Without giving out any spoiler about the little thrills you'll feel as revelations are made throughout the film, just note that Luke is still the most demanded man in the galaxy.

'Star Wars' fanboy and director of the seventh episode- JJ Abrams, has done a brilliant job in retaining the essence of the film. It has all the elements that the first three films of the series had. For the die hard fans, the film might seem like old wine in a new bottle. The plot and proceedings are the same, so much so, that you anticipate the next move made by the characters. However, the bright side of this anticipation is the fact that it keeps the nostalgia alive and trick you to believe this trilogy to be the same like 1977-1983 classics, giving JJ Abraham enough power to surprise and shock you in the coming parts.

There are new characters filling in the shoes of Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2D2 and Luke Skywalker. Director Abrams has very cleverly kept the transition smooth, making it easier for the fans to accept the new team. The most rejoicing moments are the one when you spot the old but familiar faces of your beloved characters. I can assure you with the fact that none has lost the charm in last 32 years!

Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8 along with Chewbecca have started their fight to restore peace and order in the system against the dark force and its apprentice Kylo Ren (Darth Vader's replacement). While Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are convincing enough from the light side, Adam Driver is seen struggling to keep up with the strong reputation of Darth Vader, just like his character Ren. Although, it's too soon to judge or compare the new team with the old ones, as the story has just begun and the characters will develop with the story. However the fan inside me says that it will a tough job for the new kids in the block to satisfy the true blue fans of older series.

There's a lot of adventure in film supported by good humorous lines and suspense build-up will give you thrills. The mystery around Luke Skywalker is unexplained and there are a lot of questions that keep popping in your mind after the film is over. One could see this as a good sign as it will keep the suspense quotient up for the next film in the series.

The CGI effects and battle scenes are again brilliant and 3D makes it even more appealing. However, it would have been nice to see some improvement on the machinery fronts from the dark side. Those guys are still stuck up on 30 year old mechanisms. The team is new, however the fans would love to see some new adventure with this trilogy.

Overall, 'The Force Awakens' is a bona-fide film, referencing the original classic (a little too much, at times). This seventh part is worthy enough to be the part of 'Star Wars' films. The film has Lucas' touch with Abraham's renewed energy.

The Force is definitely with this one.

Rating: 3.5/5
