Swara Bhaskar's open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali over the depiction of the climax of Padmaavat has created quite a stir in the industry. The actor wrote a scathing letter to the director criticising the Jauhar scene and said she felt reduced to a vagina after watching it.
While Padmaavat stars Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone addressed the controversy surrounding the scene, saying one must see the film in the context of the period in which it was shown, Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of Alauddin Khilji in the movie, chose to sidestep the issue.
However, the actor revealed that Swara had sent him a personal message on phone and praised his performance.
"I got a message from Swara just yesterday. She loved my performance in the film. So...," the actor was quoted as saying by PTI.
Padmaavat is based on the 16th-century epic penned by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The film had been mired in controversy with several outfits alleging that the filmmaker has "distorted history" and hurt sentiments.
The film may have got a mixed response from the audience, but it is doing exceedingly well at the box office, already having raked in Rs 114 crore in five days.
