Karan Johar also congratulates producer Ekta Kapoor, who is one of the producers on the film.
To my beautiful and close friend @ektaravikapoor ! Kudos ! With @altbalaji you have pushed boundaries and the envelope !! And with #VeereyDiWedding you have torn the envelope! May the force of content always be with you!— Karan Johar (@karanjohar) May 31, 2018
Here's what filmmaker Karan Johar has to say about Veere Di Wedding.
Sexy , saucy and sassy!!! This is not a chick flick but a super fun flick...take your friends and join this robust party! Well done @RheaKapoor and your amazing girl gang @sonamakapoor @ReallySwara @ShikhaTalsania #kareena #VeereyDiWedding— Karan Johar (@karanjohar) May 31, 2018
Bareilly Ki Barfi director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari gives a thumbs-up to Veere Di Wedding.
Talking about the film, Swara recently told a leading agency, “I think the criticism is misplaced because this film is about four young urban women, their friendship and their choices. The fact is that young urban women in India, who belong to a certain class or cultural background or lifestyle, they drink, some of them smoke, some use cuss words with friends. We are simply depicting that. It is not that it is the only thing we are showing. It is not a story about four women drinking or using cuss words, it is about friendship,”
Meanwhile, the film has been banned in Pakistan because of "vulgar dialogues and obscene scenes." Danyal Gilani, Chairman, Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC), told IANS via social media: "Members of the CBFC unanimously decided to not allow the film for public exhibition in the cinemas as its content flouts the Censorship of Film Code 1980."
In Veere Di Wedding, Sonam plays a lawyer, who is not getting married. She comes from a simple middle class family and has a single mother. In an interview with a leading agency, Sonam revealed why she didn't take the title role of Kalindi Puri, played by Kareena. "I don't believe that I need to play the central character. It's the character I wanted to play the most and I had the choice and I chose Avni. It worked out really well... If I had chosen to play the central character, I don't think any other mainstream actress would have done the film."
Rhea Kapoor, the producer of Veere Di Wedding has time and again expressed the fact that the film is really close to her heart.
Meanwhile, talking about the storyline of the film, Kareena Kapoor Khan earlier said, "When we see four girls on screen, audience thinks that it is a chic flick and it will be about their clothes, shoes and bags but this film is not like that. I think that's why producer decided not to position this film as a chic flick because it's a story of four girls who are in different stages of marriage. We are showing certain issues in the film which we have not addressed earlier."
The film's music has also created quite a buzz. The first single from the film Tareefan is meant for women all around, says rapper Badshah, who has composed the song, noting “It's about how the real men really see those things as beautiful which a lot of people call flaws. And how women are beautiful just the way they are.”
Veere Di Wedding trailer is full of unfiltered conversations and an impeccable mean-girls vibe to it which only makes it all the more interesting. The story centers around Kareena, who is reluctantly set to marry Sumeet Vyas and what unfolds is bumpy, but an interesting, ride for the said friends. The trailer oozes out a certain Sex And The City feel, as well.
The first official high-budget girl-gang story is making its way to the big screen today. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania in key roles, Veere Di Wedding unleashes the wild side of its four protagonists and revolves around childhood friendships and everlasting bonds.
