Veteran Actor Dilip Kumar Shifted to ICU, Battles Renal Failure

The 94-year-old acting legend was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital on Wednesday morning after he complained of dehydration and urinary tract infection.

The health of veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who was shifted to the ICU, continues to be critical. The 94-year old actor was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital on Wednesday, after he complained of severe dehydration and urinary infection.

While speaking to DNA, Jalil Parkar, Dilip’s doctor at Lilavati Hospital, said, "His kidney functions have not improved. On the contrary it has worsened. He is on the ventilator and we will be able to give a proper briefing in the morning."

Going by the earlier reports, the actor was doing fine. While speaking to PTI, wife Saira Banu had confirmed his recovery. "He is doing much better than yesterday. But he will be in hospital today. The doctors here are taking good care of him," she was quoted as saying by the daily.

However, recent reports suggest that the actor had to be shifted to ICU following the spurt in the creatinine levels in his blood.

According to a report published in Indian Express, a team of doctors had said, "Dilip Kumar's creatinine levels are rising. He is going into renal failure. Given his age, it is serious."

The legendary actor, who was honoured with the Padma Bhushan award in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1994, was last seen on the big screen in Qila in 1998. the actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

Known for films like Devdas, Mughal-E-Azam and Karma, Dilip got married to Saira -- over 20 years younger to him -- in 1966.
