Director Meghna Gulzar has roped in actor Vikrant Massey opposite Deepika Padukone for her upcoming film on acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Massey will reportedly play Agarwal’s former partner Alok Dixit in the film.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Massey announced his involvement with the film, which has been titled Chhapaak. “Honoured to be part of #Chhapaak! Thank you @meghnagulzar Ma’am for giving me this opportunity & believing in me. Looking forward to working with the supremely talented @DeepikaPadukone,” he tweeted.

Retweeting his tweet, Padukone wrote, “Welcome to the team @masseysahib !!!Thrilled to have you on board!!!”

Based on the eventful life of Agarwal, who was thrown acid at when she was still in school, the film will be jointly produced by Gulzar and Padukone.

Talking about casting Vikrant, who has starred in several films, including A Death in the Gunj, Lootera, Dil Dhadakne Do, Lipstick Under My Burkha and Half Girlfriend, Gulzar told Mumbai Mirror, “The cast is slowly coming together. Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since Raazi, after seeing him in A Death in the Gunj.”

“In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part,” she added.
