Immunity Boosting Food Your Child Will Love
Food is one important factor that can boost your child’s immunity.

In today’s world, exposure to harsh elements such as heavy rainfall, extreme heat and cold, as well as crowds that bear the risk of housing harmful disease through germs and viruses, having good immunity is crucial. Children, in particular, are susceptible to getting ill and contracting diseases as their immune systems are not as mature and developed as that of an adult.

Some serious contagious illnesses such as chickenpox, measles and influenza can be prevented easily through immunisation, which is why following the recommended vaccination schedule is extremely important.

However, there are measures besides immunisation that should be taken to boost health and ability to stave off other illnesses. Food is one important factor that can boost your child’s immunity. Here are some of the best inclusions, filled with vitamins and minerals, that you can make to your child’s diet.

Ginger

Known for its deep, soothing flavour, ginger is a staple ingredient in Indian cuisine and is also known for its healing properties. In addition to being known for easing stomach complaints such as nausea, the herb is a great source of antioxidants. Use fresh ginger in meals or add it to tea to reap the benefits.

Yogurt

Great for gut health, natural yogurt is packed with probiotics which are thought to ease the harsh symptoms of a cold

Watermelon

Watermelon is a great snack in the summer as it contains high amounts of water which will keep your kids hydrated. It’s also a great immunity booster thanks to the antioxidant glutathione found in the fruit.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms contain riboflavin and niacin, which are B vitamins that contribute to having a good immune system. These veggies also contain selenium, which is a mineral of which a deficiency can cause you to suffer from worse symptoms of influenza.

Spinach

The folate in spinach aids in making new cells in the body. Folate also aids in the repair of DNA. Besides these benefits, spinach also contains Vitamin C which is great for immunity. It is also a good source of fiber.

Broccoli

With vitamins A and C, broccoli is a great immunity booster. It also contains the antioxidant glutathione. Broccoli is full of great nutrients and is versatile enough to add to all kinds of dishes, from stir-frys to bakes and even as a delicious snack, topped with cheese.

Sweet Potato

With beta-carotene that turns into Vitamin A when ingested. Vitamin A is known to take care of free radicals which damage cells in the body.

Garlic

This favourite flavour enhancer for food aids healing because of its bacteria- and virus-busting properties in its raw form, and it can be used to treat skin infections.
