Mobile phones began as an innovation, became a novelty, then a status symbol. And now from a luxury, they have become a necessity. Smartphones have become an extension of our body. Our eyes glued to the screens, necks bent down, fingers typing or swiping away. But at the end of the day, a little too much of anything is bad for you. So here are the five times, among a lot of other scenarios as well, where you should DEFINITELY not be glued to/use your phone. Consider yourself warned.
Right Before Bed:
Night modes not being a lot helpful as suggested by the term, using a phone at night in the dark is risky for your health. The screen light from your phone as you swipe away on your bed restricts the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating your sleep and wake cycle, leading to loss of sleep. So if you find yourself aimlessly swiping and typing away till the wee hours, know that it’s your phone!
Right When You Wake Up:
Yes, you might have received messages, notifications, emails etc. while you were sleeping. But the overload of all that information right the moment you wake up is not good for your health. The overuse of the phone and the excess information right at the start of the day can come with increased stress, and anxiousness. So before reaching out for your phone as soon as you wake up, think again!
In Bad Lighting:
Believe it o not, your phone is making you blind. It’s true! The blue light from your phone speeds up the erosion of your retina, and actually accelerate blindness! In a dark room, that blue light from the phone directly hitting your eyes is a sure shot way to losing vision over time!
In Movie Theatres:
From health reasons, we move on to manners. In a movie theatre, someone talking loudly on the phone as the movie progresses into an interesting climax is the worst kind of distraction. Even the actors and actresses urge you to keep your phones on silent and not to use them while the movie is on. Surely it can’t be that urgent, and you can always move out! When in a theatre, leave your phone alone!
Here’s another time to leave your phone alone: while driving! Because, statutory warnings, it is injurious to your health and might result in death. Driving and texting/calling is really the worst kind of ignorance you can possess while on the road, as not only are you putting yourself in danger but others as well. A call or a message can wait. If not, park your car on the side and continue. It is literally a matter of life and death.
Calling and texting while driving is one of the road safety rules that need to be followed more strictly. We as citizens of the country need to know that breaking traffic rules is inconvenient to one and all, and also not good for your health. We all need to take a step back and try and #BeTheBetterGuy.
That is the campaign that Hyundai Motor India has been actively working on, in order to promote road safety and help us all have a safe and sound journey every time we step out. Let’s all try and be a part of this initiative, become self-aware and make the roads a better and safer place.
