Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) is conducting inquiries against nine former ministers of the previous UDF government.

There are charges of graft against K M Mani, K Babu, C N Balakrishnan, M K Muneer , Abdu Rabb, V S Sivakumar, K P Mohanan, Adoor Prakash and K P Kunjalikutty, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the state legislative assembly on Monday.

Vigilance inquiries are underway against the lawmakers, Vijayan said in reply to a question.

Congress leader K C Balakrishnan has three cases registered against him. He was booked for allegedly indulging in corruption while granting loans from TSR co-operative bank, flouting tender rules and during sale of IMFL.

K M Mani has two vigilance allegations against him. First allegation is related to staying a revenue recovery of nearly Rs 65 crore and causing loss to the state exchequer. He is also accused of promoting nepotism while appointing a director in the Gulati institute of Finance and taxation.

Dr M K Muneer, who is also at present the parliamentary party leader of Indian Union Muslim league, has allegations of corruption related to appointment of child welfare commission.

V S Sivakumar has two cases against him for possessing disproportionate wealth and owning benami property.

The allegation against P K Kunjalikutty and Adoor Prakash is related to the allotment of paddy land.

During the last UDF government led by Oommen Chandy, corruption was a main allegation raised by the Left.

The solar scam and bar bribe case were the ones that have been raised to the maximum. One of the main promises of the Left government was a corruption-free government. They have received a lot of flak for not taking swift action in both the cases.
