Dharwad: After being shown the door by the Bharatiya Janata Party just a few hours after joining the party due to his controversial past, Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has decided to take on the party. Muthalik, who was involved in beating up women in a Mangalore pub, will be contesting the 2014 elections as an Independent from Dharwad against Karnataka BJP President Prahlad Joshi. He will file his nomination papers on Wednesday.

Muthalik joined the BJP on Sunday and was shown door within the hours after the party faced flak both from inside and outside the party. "His membership should be cancelled, I have told central leadership that he should not be in the party," said Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

BJP President Rajnath Singh soon cancelled his membership as he was inducted by the Karnataka unit of the BJP without informing the central leadership.

Muthalik had hit out at the Rajnath saying he took hasty decision by cancelling his membership.

"Just because some twitter people and some so called national leaders of the BJP started attacking the decision, BJP national leaders reversed it. It won't help them. My followers are angry. I felt humiliated. The BJP has taken a hasty decision," Muthalik had said.

Muthalik had hit national headlines in early 2009 after he and his party's activists attacked young women at a pub in Mangalore.

Muthalik is facing over 50 cases ranging from violation of Section 144 to communal violence. He is out on bail in several cases.
