Patna: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Avinash Kumar died in Patna on Wednesday after three unidentified men fired at him.

The incident happened at 6:30pm on Wednesday outside a temple at Daldali Road, Salimpur Ahra area of Patna.

Avinash's death triggered protests by his party leaders including legislators. According to local police, Kumar was shot dead when he was on his way to a tea shop near a temple in Salimpur Ahra locality.

"Three people involved in his killing were identified through CCTV footage and we will arrest them soon," a police official said.

With the Bihar assembly elections round the corner, BJP leaders, including local legislator Nitin Navin, have linked the incident to the deteriorating state of law and order in Patna and across the state.

"Killing of BJP worker has vindicated our stand that law and order has totally collapsed in the state," he said.
