Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu on Friday disapproved of the party veterans raking up the issue of Bihar Assembly debacle publicly.

The minister said that instead of raising the issue publicly, they should have raised it privately in party forum.

Meanwhile, Naidu's Cabinet colleague and former BJP president Nitin Gadkari said that Advani and others were respected leaders and party would discuss the issues raised by the veterans.

This came after the party veterans, including Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Yashwant Sinha and Shanta Kumar demanded that responsibility must be fixed for the poll loss.

They had earlier issued a joint statement, saying the loss in Bihar showed that the BJP leadership had learnt no lesson from Delhi Assembly elections. They had said that saying everyone was responsible meant that nobody was responsible for the loss, demanding that accountability must be fixed.

Without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah, the party veterans held these leaders responsible for the defeat. "To say everyone is responsible for defeat in Bihar is to ensure no one is held responsible. on Tuesday night, three former party presidents including Rajnath Singh, M Venkaiah Naidu and Nitin Gadkari issued a counter statement and took a dig at the senior leaders. They reminded them that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani who had set a healthy precedent of collectively taking up responsibility for victories and defeats.
