Assam: Bodoland People's Front breaks ties with Congress

Ties between the allies had strained earlier over the arrest of a local council member.

Guwahati: In what could prove to be a setback for the Congress party in Assam, the Bodoland People's Front ended its age old alliance with the party on Thursday.

The 13-year-old alliance between the Congress and BPF ran the administration in Assam's troubled Bodoland. BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary cited non-co-operation from the Congress side as the reason behind the split.

The BPF is in power in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) - that runs administration in the four Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

Ties between the allies had strained earlier over the arrest of a local council member. But the Congress had then managed to save its partnership with the BPF.
