Thiruvananthapuram: Acting on the stark comments made by Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas against nurses from Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday wrote a letter to party convenor Arvind Kejriwal and demanded an apology from the former.

Terming the remark on nurses from Kerala as racist, the Kerala CM demanded Vishwas to take back his statements immediately.

Chandy noted that Keraliites were proud of the nurses from the state. Their (nurses) service and hard work are highly praised across the globe, he said in the letter.

While, the AAP has not yet given a statement on Vishwas's controversial remarks, protests grew loud in Kerala with the United Nurses Association issuing a legal notice against him and demanding an apology to the nursing community.

Chandy criticised AAP for not coming forward on the issue. "It is unfortunate and sad that the AAP leaders are silent about this comment," he said in his letter.

Vishwas had reportedly called Malyalee nurses as "kaali peeli" sister.
