Congress on Wednesday announced candidates for two Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh where by-polls will be held on April 9.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry declared Hemant Katare, son of late Satyadev Katare, as party's nominee from Ater.

Savitri Singh will be party's candidate from Bandhavgarh (ST), a Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson said.

The by-polls to Ater and Bandhavgarh (ST) Assembly constituencies will be held on April 9. Counting of votes will take place on April 13.

The by-poll in Ater Assembly constituency is being held following death of then MLA and Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare.

The Bandhavgarh seat fell vacant after incumbent MLA and state minister Gyan Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha from Shahdol (ST) seat in a by-poll in November last year.

Meanwhile, state election committee of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also recommended names of candidates for the two seats.

A BJP release said that the committee has recommended the name of Arvind Bhadoriya for Ater and Shivnarayan Singh for Bandhavgarh (ST).

A meeting of state election committee was held at the party's state headquarters which was attended by state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
