Bhopal: Even before staging massive protest against the BJP government in Bhopal, the Congress has decided to take on the government over the choice of venue for the February 22 mega protest in the state capital.

After administration decided to revoke earlier permission for the protest at Tin Shed in TT Nagar, an agitated Congress has hit out at the officials.

“If they want, they can rope in the army but Congress would go ahead with the protest on the same venue,” Congress chief spokesperson KK Mishra said.

Mishra claimed that the party had secured written permission for the demonstration and won’t alter its plans.

The party is claiming participation of one lakh party workers in the proposed assembly gherao, protest and mass public meeting but administration has estimated arrival of around 50,000 political workers.

Earlier on Feburary 15, the administration had granted permission for the protest but on the basis of a revised police report submitted on Feb 17, the administration revoked the permission arguing insufficient space for the gathering of around 40,000-50,000 people.

The administration also asked the party general secretary to apply for permission afresh.

The party is planning to demonstrate on issues of alleged illegal mining, cancellation of admissions of 634 medicos, Rs 2200 cr Katni hawala scam and others.

The party also has another reason to feel agitated after Bhopal municipal corporation’s anti-encroachment squad late on Sunday night seized posters and hoardings depicting pictures of senior party leaders who are expected to take part in the protest rally.

"The city roads are covered with posters and banners of BJP leaders, we will do the same to them if the BMC staffers dare to remove our publicity material in future," Congress district head PC Sharma said.
