Jaswant Singh and some other high profile 'sidelining' in 2014 LS polls
On Monday, Jaswant Singh filed his nomination papers from Barmer in Rajasthan after being denied a ticket by the BJP.

New Delhi: It is a season of revolt and rebellion this election season. Jaswant Singh, the BJP stalwart and one of the founders of the party, has now turned against the party leadership after being denied a ticket from his desired seat of Barmer in Rajasthan.

On Monday, he filed the nomination papers as an Independent candidate from Barmer.

His revolt has shocked the BJP. With his surprise candidature, Barmer will now be one of the most keenly watched Lok Sabha seats.

Apart from this, there are few more seats where high profile rebels or defectors are contesting in the elections.

Pataliputra in Bihar: Ram Kripal Yadav, one time close friend of RJD chief Lalu Yadav is taking on Lalu's daughter Misa Bharti on a BJP ticket. Yadav defected to the BJP after he was denied an RJD ticket from Pataliputra.

Karnataka: Veteran Congress leader and former Railways minister CK Jaffer Sharief is upset over not being given a ticket from Bangalore Central. After threatening to quit from the Congress, he has gone to Mecca on a pilgrimage. The JDS wants him to contest on its ticket. But the Congress seems sure that he won't resign.

Kerala: The RSP, which was one of the constituents of the opposition LDF led by the CPM, has defected to the ruling UDF led by the Congress.

Tamil Nadu: The DMK chief, M Karunanidhi, has denied ticket to rebel son MK Alagiri and his followers. They are likely to take on the DMK either by contesting as rebels or by extending support to DMK rivals.

Pune: MP and senior Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi is sulking over the denial of ticket to him or his wife. Kalmadi is the main accused in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) scams.

Ahmedabad East: Senior BJP leader and sitting MP Harin Pathak has been denied a ticket. Even though, there is no confirmation on Pathak contesting as a rebel, he has indicated he may revolt.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena has already snubbed its former chief minister and Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Gajanan Joshi.
