Goa: Parrikar Takes Oath as Goa CM; Amit Shah & Co in Attendance

Manohar Parrikar will be sworn in as chief minister of Goa around 5 pm today with Governor Mridula Sinha accepting the BJP's claim of majority in the state Assembly.

Overcoming the Congress challenge and a petition in the Supreme Court, Manohar Parrikar was on Tuesday evening sworn in as the Chief Minister of Goa.

The BJP though finished second in the elections with 13 seats, but claimed the support of 21 MLAs and was thus given the first go at government formation.

*The SC has given the right verdict...we are sure of forming government in Goa.
*There is a clear alliance of 21 and all the MLAs have also submitted a report to Goa Governor Mridula Sinha.
*So, it is wrong for Congress to claim that they have been denied a chance to for the government.
*In 2005, BJP won 30 out of 81 seats in Jharkhand. But JMM leader Shri Shibu Soren, with a support of 17 MLAs of his Party plus others, was invited to form the government.

BJP confident of winning floor test in Goa Assembly

The BJP  welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to not stay the swearing-in of Manohar Parrikar as Goa Chief Minister, and claimed it will be able to prove majority on the floor of the House.

"We have the numbers to form the government. We have more than 21 MLAs with us with the support of alliance partners," Goa BJP unit General Secretary Sadanand Tanawade told reporters.
