New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh elections were the most closely fought Assembly polls in recent times. The Congress got 114 seats with 40.9% vote share while the BJP won 109 seats with 41% vote share.

Such close was the fight in MP that the victory margin for the winning candidates in 73 seats was less than 5% , and 5-10% in 65 seats. In at least 7 seats that were won by the Congress, the margin of victory of its candidates was less than a 1,000 votes.

In Gwalior South, one of the constituencies that the Congress won, the margin of victory was a mere 121 votes.
