Kochi: Kerala Congress (M), a constituent of the United Democratic Front on Monday staked claim for 22 seats in the April 13 state Assembly elections.

The Congress on Monday began talks with four of its front partners - Kerala Congress (Mani), Kerala Congress (Jacob), Socialist Janata (Democratic) of M P Veerandra Kumar and Communist Marxist Party (CMP)led by M V Raghavan.

Kerala Congress (M) leader K M Mani told reporters that his party had demanded 22 seats after holding talks with Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Ramesh Chennithala and UDF Convenor P P

Thankachan.

Mani said his party's demand was not 'unjust' besides the 18 seats that the party had contested during the previous election, it had demanded only four additional seats.

Thankachan told reporters that further talks would be held with KC(M) at Thiruvananthapuram on March 9, 2011.

Discussions are also being held with Kerala Congress (Jacob), CMP and SJD on Monday.
