The political slugfest worsened in Kerala today with the CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan daring the BJP-led Centre to dismiss the Pinarayi Vijayan government. His statement coincided with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s visit to the state to meet the family of an RSS worker who was hacked to death last week.

A series of clashes between the ruling CPI(M) and BJP-RSS activists had rocked Thiruvanathauram last week, which culminated in the killing of 34-year-old Rajesh. He was hacked to death by a gang, allegedly led by a history-sheeter, on July 29. His left hand was chopped off and there were several other injuries all over his body. The BJP had alleged that CPI(M) was behind the murder, a charge denied by the ruling party.
