Gandhinagar: Veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani has declared in his affidavit before the election authority that he and his family possess assets of over Rs 7 crore.

Advani on Saturday filed nomination from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. As per the affidavit, his and his family's assets have doubled since the 2009 general election, when he had declared assets of over Rs 3.5 crore.

He has stated that he possesses two houses in Gurgaon and a house in Gandhinagar, together worth about Rs 5.57 crore as per the current market value.

In 2009, these houses had been stated to be worth Rs 2.35 crore altogether.

The two flats in Gurgaon are shown to be worth Rs 2.27 crore and Rs 2.29 crore respectively, while the house in the sector 2 here is valued at Rs 1 crore.

Advani has deposits of Rs 97.23 lakh, while his wife has deposits of Rs 67.13 lakh. The five times MP of Gandhinagar has jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh, jointly owned with wife Kamla Advani.

He has Rs 25,000 cash while his wife has Rs 15,000 cash. He has no financial liabilities, the affidavit filed before the District Electoral Officer states.

It also mentions that Advani is an accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case of 1992. He does not owe anything to any bank or the government.

Advani does not own any motor vehicles, it adds. In 2012-13, Advani and his wife Kamla had disclosed, in Income Tax Returns, that their total incomes were Rs 29.70 lakh and Rs 25.68 lakh respectively.

In 2009, Advani had declared that his and his family's assets were worth over Rs 3.5 crore, including deposits of Rs 67.56 lakh in his name and Rs 36.56 lakh in his wife's name.

The two houses in Gurgaon had been shown as being worth Rs 92.5 lakh each, while the one in Gandhinagar was valued at Rs 50 lakh.

He had then declared that he and his wife jointly owned jewellery worth Rs 16 lakh.
