Mukhtar Ansari of BSP wins the Mau seat, constituency No. 356 of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly.

The main candidates from Mau were Mukhtar Ansari (BSP), Altaf Ansari (SP), Ram Soch Yadav (CPI) and Mahendra Rajbhar (SBSP).

In the last Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections held in 2012, the Quami Ekta Dal (QED) won this constituency by 5,904 votes. Mukhtar Ansari, the winning QED candidate, got 70,210 votes. His nearest contender, Bheem Rajbhar of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), got 64,306 votes. The voter turnout was 58.25 %.

Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.

Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
