Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi "road-show" on Saturday was violative of the election Model Code of Conduct and urged the EC to look into the matter.
In a statement issued here, she said, "Yesterday's road-show taken out by PM Narendra Modi (in Varanasi) is a serious issue. Violation of the Model Code of Conduct by people occupying high posts is not only improper, but also dangerous for democracy."

The former Chief Minister also claimed that the Prime Minister's action showed that conducting a free-and-fair election would be a challenge for the Election Commission in Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati urged the poll watchdog to "immediately intervene", so that those occupying high posts do not dare violate the Model Code of Conduct in future.
