Narendra Modi to address NDA rally in Saharsa, likely to announce special package of Rs 56,000 crore for Bihar

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attacked the BJP saying he had so far heard nothing new about the package, but would wait for details before commenting on it.

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will address his third National Democratic Alliance rally in Saharsa district of Bihar and is likely to announce a special package of Rs 56,000 crore for the poll-bound state. This is Modi's third visit to Bihar within a span of just one month after becoming the Prime Minister in May 2014.

As per media reports, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including Sushil Kumar Modi, have been asserting that the PM might announce a special package worth Rs 56,000 crore at Saharsa rally.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attacked the BJP saying he had so far heard nothing new about the package, but would wait for details before commenting on it. "First of all it's a clear-cut violation of cooperative federalism that the state government has been kept in the dark, while BJP leaders are making statements about PM's special package for the state. But, whatever I have heard so far there seems nothing new in the proposed special package," Kumar said.

Kumar said he would observe protocol and go to Patna Airport to receive the Prime Minister.

He, however, said he would not be present at Ara where the prime minister would lay the foundation of 10 roads of national highways, including a four-lane road from Buxar to Patna and a six-lane bridge at Koelwar in Ara.

While addressing his first election rally on July 25, Modi had said Bihar will be given a special package "bigger" than Rs 50,000 crore which he had promised earlier and that will be announced after the end of Monsoon session of Parliament as his "lips are sealed till then".

After being decimated in Delhi Assembly elections, the Bihar elections is a litmus test for the Narendra Modi government and it is not taking any chances. With top leaders of the NDA actively involved in campaigning and reaching out to people informing various schemes, it is to seen whether it will materialise in votes.
