Bhopal: The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh is under attack from the opposition Congress after arrest warrant was issued against a minister in a murder case.

On Tuesday, a court in Bhind issued an arrest warrant against Lal Singh Arya, the General Administration Department minister, in connection with the murder of former Congress MLA Makhan Singh Jatav.

The bailable warrants were issued after Arya failed to turn in court for seven times.

The court had included Arya's name as an accused but the minister got relief from high court and later the matter landed at Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, Congress workers staged protest against Arya and accused state government of sheltering the minister.

Arya told News18 over phone that he will abide by court orders. "I am a law abiding citizen and there is no question of contempt to court," he said adding that the Congress was not able to digest success of a Dalit politician.

Jatav, a former Congress MLA from Gohad in Bhind district, was shot dead during an election campaign on April 13, 2013. Despite allegations against him of involvement in the case, Arya was not named by police in the case and later CBI too did not mention him in the probe.

However, this year on May 19, judge Yogesh Kumar Gupta responding to a petition from Jatav's family added Arya's name in the case as an accused.
