Lucknow: Angry over UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement on Lord Hanuman, a man affiliated with Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC)has put up posters in Lucknow, asking the CM to apologise for “bringing God into politics”. The posters, which have been displayed at all major crossings in the city, were issued by Rahul Awasthi an affiliate of the UPCC.
Speaking to News18 about the issue, UPCC spokesperson Anshu Awasthi said, “The BJP is taking instructions from the RSS and trying to create a divide in the society. People will never forgive those who have dragged Lord Hanuman into politics. The BJP has played divisive politics since its inception. Sometimes their leaders say Sita Mata was a test-tube baby and now they are talking about the caste of Hanuman.”
“Not just CM Yogi, Prime Minister Narnendra Modi should also clarify his stand on the issue as it’s a direct insult of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram. If PM Modi keeps silence on the issue, it means this was all communicated by PM Modi himself,” added Anshu.
In the posters, Lord Hanuman and Yogi have been placed next to each other. Responding to Yogi’s ‘caste’ remark, the posters have Hanuman saying, “Hey tuchch maansikta ke vyakti … vote ke kaaran mujhe bhi rajneeti me le aaye! (Man of shallow mentality, you have dragged me into politics for votes).
On Friday, Om Prakash Rajbhar, a minister in the UP government and a BJP ally, had also slammed the UP chief minister. Speaking to News18 in Jaunpur, Rajbhar had said, “People have now dragged Lord Hanuman into politics for Dalit votes in Rajasthan. These people can do anything.”
In a bid to please Dalits to caste vote for the candidate fielded by the BJP from Alwar, the UP chief minister, had on November 28 said that Hanuman was a Dalit tribal. “Hanuman was a tribal, a forest dweller and was deprived. Bajrang Bali worked to connect all Indian communities together, from north to south and east to west. This was his resolve as it was Lord Ram’s wish. Just like him, we should also not rest till we fulfil that wish,” Adityanath had said during a poll rally in Malpura constituency.
